Yeast Infection Causes

There are many yeast infection causes. The reason a yeast infection occurs is that when Candida Albicans, a naturally occurring cell in our body, multiplies rapidly and starts outnumbering the good bacteria that are there to control them. This situation will lead to an overgrowth of yeast in our body and result in what we commonly refer to as a yeast infection.

The most common reason for this happening is the use, continued use, or overuse of an antibiotic. An antibiotic’s job is to destroy bacteria. Unfortunately, antibiotics don’t discriminate and will attack both good and bad bacteria. When the good bacteria is destroyed, our defense against yeast fungus is lowered, the balance is tipped, and there is greater chance of a yeast infection occurring.

Birth control pills and contraceptive use are common yeast infection causes as well. Women who are on birth control pills can have an excess of estrogen and progesterone which can allow for Candida fungus to grow rapidly. And spermicidal is known to interact with vaginal fluids and cause them to be more inclined to yeast growth.

Men are prone to yeast infections of the penis through sexual activity. Specifically, by having unprotected sex with a woman who currently has a vaginal yeast infection you will be at greater risk of contracting one. This is one reason it is important to treat a yeast infection immediately. If left untreated you can pass it to your partner.

A pregnant woman is at risk of developing a yeast infection. When you are pregnant your hormonal balance may shift in a way that promotes an excessive growth of yeast bacteria. Regular douching can also alter your ph levels and lead to a problem.

If you have a weakened immune system, increased levels of yeast can occur in your body. This is because a weakened immune system may not be able to create enough good bacteria to combat and keep yeast in check. These people will usually suffer from chronic yeast problems.

Eating too much sugar or suffering from high blood sugar can leads to Candida issues. Yeast fungus loves it when there are high levels of blood sugar available. This really does create an environment for them to flourish in.

These are the most common yeast infection causes. Now, what about treatments?
